Ex-CEO of AMCC joins Infinera’s board

Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), says that Kambiz Hooshmand, a veteran with 25 years of experience in the communications, networking, semiconductor and telecom industries, has joined its board of directors, succeeding Alexandre Balkanski (a board member since 2001).

“We are grateful to Alex Balkanski for his service as a board member practically since the inception of Infinera,” says chairman, co-founder & CEO Jagdeep Singh. “His vision, counsel and experience have been invaluable as we have grown Infinera from startup to a publicly owned and leading optical transport company.”

Hooshmand brings strategic and operating experience to the firm’s board as it continues to broaden its product offerings and global reach in optical networking. He was recently CEO & president of Applied Micro Circuits (AMCC), where he helped to launch the firm into the 10G Ethernet & optical transport networks markets and to significantly increase revenues (with AMCC becoming a leader in the emerging data-center application market).

Prior to joining AMCC in 2005, Hooshmand was with Cisco Systems Inc for nine years, most recently as general manager & group VP for optical & broadband. Previously, he was with StrataCom and Rolm Corp. Hooshmand also has an M.S. in Engineering Management from Stanford University.

“He brings valuable experience with technologies and markets that will serve us well as we continue to grow our business,” says chief operating officer & board member Tom Fallon (who will assume the role of CEO on 1 January).
