Infinera appoints VP of worldwide sales

Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), has appointed Ron Martin as vice president for worldwide sales.

Martin joins Infinera’s sales executive team, including Scott Chandler and Howard Lukens, who led the firm to the number-one market share in the North American long-haul market (according to data from independent analyst firm Ovum) and to international customer wins including Germany’s leading service provider Deutsche Telekom, Nordic-based international carrier Telia Sonera, and Japan's NTT Communications (the world’s second largest service provider).

During 30 years in the networking industry, Martin has experience of building and managing large international optical networking businesses. From 1987 to 2001, he worked at Fujitsu Network Communications (FNC) in Richardson, TX (culminating in the position of chief operating officer), where he played a key role in Fujitsu’s growth to become one of the largest suppliers of optical systems to leading US telecom companies. In those years, FNC grew from a $30m firm to a $3bn organization with 3000 employees.

From 2001 to 2007, Martin was at Cisco Systems, where he served as VP & general manager of Cisco’s optical business unit. He was involved in the consolidation of multiple international Cisco acquisitions into one business unit, and leadership of a business unit with revenues that reached more than $1bn a year.

From 2007 until last month, Martin was at Adva Optical Networking, serving as chief marketing & strategy officer and president of the North American subsidiary, building the Adva brand in the US market and leading the creation of a US direct sales force.
